In September of 2007, I travelled through the southwestern USA with my Jayco 26' trailer and Ford f-250 diesel, and found that along I-10 through Louisiana and Florida, they have armed guards that patrol the rest areas 24 hours a day. So you are very safe here. In Texas they encourage you to stay in the rest areas when you are tired. There are cameras everywhere at their rest stops and the State Troopers stop in here all the time when driving past.
I stayed in these rest areas and at the Flying J when I travelled, and felt completely safe!
Tomorrow is another day!
