Encinitas California, Too...You're Next

I recently spoke at my city council meeting relative to this issue as did 8 of my neighbors, all opposing restrictions on parking RVs. Some of those opposed did not own rigs, just didn't want more government intrusion and more laws. The city council had originally enacted the law to curtail CAMPING by certain "gypsies" who had figured out that they could live a block from the beach for the cost of a jalopy Jamboree. They were gaming the system and the sheriff just gave up.

So our elected retards decided that it was easier to just outlaw parking entirely. Apparently they didn't have the spine to direct law enforcement to enforce the existing laws against camping on city streets or sleeping in vehicles. As is ALWAYS the case when politicians get busy, there was unstated motivation as well as the ordinance that became the law included boat trailers, cabovers, utility trailers, motorhomes, tradesmen storage trailers, camper trailers, EVERYTHING. The vote was 5-0 in favor of continuing the restriction with the proviso that there would be accommodation for those loading and unloading at their home for 48 hours. The city council cited the numerous emails in favor of the ordinance as their basis. We had been ambushed by the pols as they were doing the bidding of those unwilling to stand and be heard in public yet who wanted their way. I will be requesting copies of all emails relative to this isue this upcoming week. I will keep you posted on this.

As background in my town, there are no parcels zoned for outdoor storage and those that have conditional use permits for such uses are full. I did find one spot w/o 24 hour access for $175 a month for my 19' weekend warrior trailer. Unfortunately, the layout prevented access by my longbed crew cab tow vehicle. My trailer was always parked in front of my house.

Bottom line here is if you see it coming, get involved. I waited and now I am suffering for it.
