Huntington Beach California

Huntington Beach, California has just past a new ordinance that requires RVers in anything over 20 feet to obtain permits for overnight park on residential streets.

However, thanks to an organized group of RVers, this ordinance allows up to 16 days a month with a permit, including parking for guests of residents. What started out as a hue and cry from people complaining about RV's on the streets was turned into a reasonably good thing that will allow residents at least to park their vehicles on City streets for loading, unloading etc. We have also encouraged the City to post signs with a number to call to find out where RV's can legally park in the City--but that hasn't happened yet. We shall see.

However, overnight parking is not allowed in the local Walmart or on city streets for non-residents with no connection to a resident. This came about because of a large number of folks "living" in their RV's and just moving them from place-to-place in the City.

Campgrounds are very limited in southern California; we do have Bolsa Chica and a few private campgrounds but it's not an RV friendly trend as property prices soar out-of-sight.

Most cities are also reluctant to issue permits for RV storage yards because they don't bring in sufficient revenue to the cities.
